Our Mission
To preserve and celebrate the rich history of Cleveland's fences. We believe that a city's character is not just in its buildings, but in the beautiful and varied fences that surround them. We are dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and appreciation of these often-overlooked works of art.
Our Charter
The Cleveland Steel Historical Fencing Society is a 501(c)(2) non-profit organization dedicated to the study and appreciation of historical fences in Cleveland, Ohio. We are committed to:
- Documentation: Creating a comprehensive archive of Cleveland's historic fences, including photographs, historical records, and architectural details.
- Preservation: Advocating for the protection and restoration of significant historical fences throughout the city.
- Education: Raising public awareness about the artistic and historical importance of fences through workshops, tours, and online resources.
A Note on Fencing: It has come to our attention that some people may confuse our organization with the sport of fencing. To be clear, we think the sport of fencing is dumb. Our passion lies with actual, physical fences—the kind that protect your yard and look great doing it. We believe that real fences are way cooler than people poking each other with pointy sticks.

- Vice President: Marcus Thorne, a local historian and author of "Cleveland's Ironwork: A Legacy in Metal."
- Secretary: Beatrice Lowell, a community organizer with a talent for fundraising and event planning.
- Treasurer: Arthur Finch, a certified public accountant with a meticulous eye for detail.
